"I realized how much my life was influenced by my family's history and how little I knew about it until then. Everything that was previously suppressed suddenly became clear. Being aware of where you come from gives you a solid foundation to understand and tell your story".

Artist Statment

“As a Mexican woman living in New York City, I feel it is my responsibility to open up a dialogue about immigrants. My work intends to bring Latinx life into contemporary art by celebrating the culture and highlighting family values. The narrative shows interior domestic scenes surrounding tables.

Bright colors and decorative patterns are very characteristic of my works; in my oil paintings, portraits are always in the foreground and close to the viewer. Intense brushwork provides unique character combined with flat backgrounds to highlight emotion.”

Reina y su Reino https://www.multiploeditions.com/product/reina-y-su-reino/ Wed, 23 Feb 2022 16:48:38 +0000 https://www.multiploeditions.com/?post_type=product&p=3408 The artist chose to use oil pastels and gold paint to add color and flecks of light to the print, using the natural texture of the paper, which almost mimics the original canvas. The result is a very dynamic, new work of art.

Tania Marmolejo was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1975 to a Swedish mother and a Dominican father. She grew up surrounded by art and today uses her mixed heritage to develop her talent for drawing, design and painting. After studying at the end of the 90s, in Altos de Chavón, known as the "City of Artists", she obtained the Bluhdorn scholarship and continued her studies in Fine Arts and Illustration at Parsons The New School for Design, New York. A stage of constant experimentation passed, combining art with design, illustration and fashion.

In 2005 Marmolejo joined the group of artists represented by MadArts Studios in Brooklyn, NY, and District and Co. Gallery in Santo Domingo. Her work began to be exhibited collectively in different places, nationally and internationally, and gradually she concentrated more on painting. The large female faces were represented on the canvas as an act of rebellion and reaffirmation towards unprejudiced beauty, without chromatic "corrections" that place women within a particular race or style.

In relevant fairs and biennials such as Scope, Context Art and the Ibero-American Design Biennial (BID), Madrid, Tania's paintings do not go unseen by the visitor. The exalted eyes with an expressive look and the disobedient hair, are a call to attention towards the recognition of women as a key figure in society. The timeless expression of facial features suggests that it does not matter where we came from but where we are going.

Marmolejo is part of the book “Dominicans out of the charts. 150 women who transformed the Dominican Republic”, by Geraldine de Santis, 2021 and she is the author of the books “I doodle therefore I am” and “To doodle or not to doodle”. Among her most recent solo exhibitions is “Anacaona’s Revenge”, Eligere Gallery, Seoul, South Korea, 2021. Her work is part of important private collections and she currently lives and works in New York.

The Hug https://www.multiploeditions.com/product/the-hug/ Fri, 03 Dec 2021 20:41:41 +0000 https://www.multiploeditions.com/?post_type=product&p=3209 Antonyo Marest was born in 1987 in the city of Alicante, Spain. Influenced by life in the Mediterranean from very early on, his artistic creation was linked to color, light and integration with physical space. His first forays were in graffiti in 1998 and later he was incorporating painting and design, motivated to a great extent by his architecture studies at various European universities. His free and curious soul was shaping his ideal as an artist, constantly renewing his inner landscape.

Marest is currently one of the most internationally recognized urban artists. The path has been guided by discipline and perseverance, also by the quality and impact of his works. The evolution of color enjoys extraordinary autonomy from 2009, the date on which he became a professional muralist. From 2012 to 2015 he decided a turn in his work, reducing the colors and using them to generate different meanings. His interest in Art Deco and the Tropics began in 2018 with the color-feeling alluding to emotions and opening a dynamic bridge towards retro. He incorporates palm trees into the colossal compositions and adapts his style to the local landscape, connecting with nature and reflecting popular cultural identities.

Some of the projects he has carried out are Miami Sunrise Tower (2021), Start India Chennai (2020) and Visionart Festival (2019). Marest has also collaborated with important brands and companies such as Tumi, Royal Enfield and Sofitel, enriching his work with other disciplines such as design and photography. Among the recent exhibitions where he has participated are “Sun Harbor”, Furiosa Gallery, Madrid 2020, “Optical Ilusion”, Fumigee Gallery, Paris 2020, “Boudless Boundaries”, Stolen Space, London 2020, among others. His work is collected mainly by corporations that integrate art into their projects to offer their clients an authentic way to enjoy life.

Untitled https://www.multiploeditions.com/product/untitled/ Fri, 19 Nov 2021 20:30:26 +0000 https://www.multiploeditions.com/?post_type=product&p=2980 André Butzer was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1973 and currently lives and works in Berlin. From 1996 to 2000 he studied at the “Akademie Isotrop”, Hamburg, DE, with a critical, autonomous and avant-garde spirit. During these years he integrated various groups of artists in Europe such as Contemporary Fine Arts, Secession and Ulm. In 2001 he founded the "Institut für SDI-Traumforschung", together with the artist Björn Dahlem, in Berlin, and was co-editor of the magazine Isotrops. At the end of the 90s, figures with monumental heads, eyes and hands appeared, with a predominance of primary colors and electric brushstrokes.

His interest in the theory of color and its integration with light are reflected in the search not for a precise language but in the full enjoyment of pictorial, conscious and cognitive action. Although his work can be inserted within expressionism, Butzer does not conform to the traditional definitions of art and his creation is constantly changing, both in style and medium, called by the artist himself as Science Fiction Expressionism. In his abstract paintings the color gray is an ally of History and takes the viewer to a dreamlike introspection zone where there is no division between fiction and reality: NASAHEIM.

Downfall https://www.multiploeditions.com/product/downfall/ Tue, 10 Aug 2021 19:34:10 +0000 https://www.multiploeditions.com/?post_type=product&p=2512 Richard Bosman was born in 1944 in Madras, India and lives in Esopus, New York. For more than four decades he has cultivated the harmonious marriage between painting and prints. In the 1980s, his artistic career revealed original inspiration for Chinese comics and film noir, within the Neo Expressionist figurative art movement. Drama, action, suspense, an exclusive diversity of cinematographic genres are interpreted in a two-dimensional oeuvres where the urban landscape appears as a secondary actor in the scene.

With the soul of a traveler, Bosman's gaze is from the past, the present and the future. His interest for the histrionics of the characters and the story cede to the turbulent brush strokes. You know that something happened, is happening or is going to happen. The mystery in his work is the autonomy with which he paints. Sometimes he positions himself as a silent spectator, whose look is focused on a specific place within the composition. The form is investigated in series, closely related to the memory that shelters it and keeps it alive.

Although Bosman is a school artist, an exquisite connoisseur of the technique, during his career he has not focused on creating “comfortable” creative formulas, he moves away from the market stereotypes and goes through the subtle door of constant change. He is an explorer. Glimpses the curious note about the different, changes from one subject to another without letting himself be manipulated by what is trending. Bosman is an artist who assumes with all magnificence the value of creative freedom.

Fire Side https://www.multiploeditions.com/product/fire-side/ Thu, 05 Nov 2020 14:49:26 +0000 https://www.multiploeditions.com/?post_type=product&p=804 The pictorial universe of Judith Linhares is imaginatively recreated from personal references.

In Fire Side a couple calmly enjoy the nightly landscape around them, while they cook dinner. Naked bodies indulge in the ordinary pleasure of contemplation. A young deer visits the scene and watches the viewer.

What happened before and what will happen after? Linhares' narrative structure is shown in a spontaneous and possible universe.

The extraordinary use of color, space and light, articulates a vibrant approach between the dreamlike and the real. The visual narrative in first instance is passive, after which the composition invites to look deeper.

This image celebrates the fleeting moment of ordinary pleasures. An alternative world, whose iconography gives relevance to everyday life, territory, coexistence and utopia. Fire Side, is a limited edition of 55. Is a 65 color screen print on 320 g 100 % cotton Canson paper, which guarantees optimal preservation and excellent texture. Each one signed and numbered by the artist.

Between The Flowers https://www.multiploeditions.com/product/between-the-flowers/ Wed, 04 Nov 2020 17:55:28 +0000 https://www.multiploeditions.com/?post_type=product&p=1048 Samuel Bassett (b. 1982, Cornwall, UK) lives and works in the county of Cornwall, where he grew up in a family environment of fishermen, miners and farmers, a visible cultural heritage that is seen throughout his works.

His first approaches to art were through abstraction and British modernism (from the 40s to the 60s) whose works (Feiler, Hilton, Lanyon, among others) he discovered as a teenager, walking by the town, seeing them through the glass of the galleries of St.Ives, where this recognised colony of artists were based.

He studied Illustration at the Bournemouth Arts Institute, but before that he was already “committed” to painting, already making and exhibiting works. In 2009/2010 he held his first solo exhibition in Cornwall and gradually he was connecting with other practices of the artistic world such as curatorship, Lecturing, exhibitions and projects.

Influenced by his environment, Bassett’s works explore nature from human perception. With a self-referential, intimate and panoramic language, his paintings and sculptures reflect local cultural identity elements, sometimes becoming a visual metaphor for the landscape.

The prominence of blue on the canvas represents his connection with the sea, and, although he also uses other colors such as red, ocher or black, his work is distinguished by wavy blue brushstrokes in ephemeral movements. Through various techniques and materials such as acrylic and ink, the form appears between juxtaposed layers and drawn elements.

Bassett has made solo shows at various renowned galleries such as Galerie Kornfeld, Berlin (2018), Anima Mundi (2019) and Vigo Gallery, London (2021). He has participated in international art fairs such as Untitled (2018, 2020) and CODE art Fair (2018). His paintings are part of important private and public collections in the U.K and beyond; and they have been used in many different contexts including public art projects and for public art galleries in the UK.

Bear Triptych Part 1 https://www.multiploeditions.com/product/bear-triptych-part-1/ Tue, 03 Nov 2020 17:52:22 +0000 https://www.multiploeditions.com/?post_type=product&p=1046 Mira Schor is one of the most transcendent contemporary artists and art critic. Her work occupies a prominent place within the visual artistic scene and embraces a solid career. Politics, feminism, consumer society and other issues are addressed through exhaustive concept analysis and formal representation. Her art is articulated with passion and commitment.

The work Bear Triptych Part 1, was made in 1972 and belongs to a group of 9 paintings that the artist painted between 1972 and 1973, known as The Story Paintings. This specific work narrates the encounter between a naked woman and a bear, surrounded by a desert landscape, which may well allude to the Californian desert.

Eroticism is clearly distinguished by the simplicity of the forms and the explicit act: How to flirt with a bear? Both bodies are exploring and getting to know each other through basic senses such as sight, smell, touch.

Dominating or being dominated is replaced by giving in to pleasure: Who has the power? Then the bear becomes a symbol and resource to bare the wishes of the woman and break the schemes.

The formal composition, however, responds to the canons of traditional painting: vertical and diagonal lines, balanced spatiality, pastel tones, among other elements that coexist harmoniously and focus attention on the main scene. This work is an edition of 30 silkscreen, printed on Fabriano 300gr 100% Cotton Paper, highlighting textures and colors and guaranteeing high-quality conservation.
